Shaheed Smarak

Location: Shaheed Smarak is located on the bank of River Gomti in Kakori town of Lucknow city in Uttar Pradesh state.

Description: Shaheed Smarak was constructed during the war of independence in the year 1857. It is a place dedicated to the great heroes who sacrificed their precious lives during the freedom struggle of India in the year 1857. This place has immense historical significance, as this Shaheed Smarak demonstrates the successive attempts of Indian soldiers to free their country during the Indian Rebellion. This place gives a proud feeling to every Indian who visits this memorial and remembers those unknown soldiers who laid their lives to protect innocent people and free our country from British rulers. Lord Dalhousie was the Governor General of India during the period from 1848-1856 who devised the Doctrine of Lapse. The great soldiers continued to fight with the British till their last breath and marked the first century celebration of Sepoy Mutiny.  This great memorial is made from white marble stone and is a very tall minaret. It is surrounded by a huge garden which enhances the beauty of this memorial.

Activities: Tourists may give tribute to the great warriors who sacrificed their lives for the sake of humanity and show deep love for their country by presenting colorful flowers or lighting candles in their memory.
