Description: La Martiniere School, previously known as Constantia, has a strong connection with the British era. Constructed in 1751 by Major General Claude Martin, the first batch of this prestigious school was started in 1845. Previously used as the residence of the general, this monument was built according to the French architectural style. The college is housed in the main building of Constantia where a number of statues welcome its visitors. Spread over an area of 200 acres, this monument also houses the tomb of Claude Martin. As wished by Martin, this place remained an all boys’ school. Established on a raised ground, Constantia overlooks a laat. The reason for the construction of laat remains unknown; however it provides a unique and splendid look to the monument.
