Located at Saidapet, the Kaaraneeswarar Temple is a well known Hindu temple. The presiding deities of this temple are goddess Swarnaambikai (sakhti) and Lord Karaneeswara (Shiva). Situated near the railway station, this temple has a seven storied Gopuram which is surrounded by two prakarmas. Apart from the tall Gopuram, a beautiful tank which is present near the temple remains the main attraction.
Huge crowd of devotees is witnessed in the temple on the Pradhosham days. Various festivals are celebrated here with a large number of people participating in it. A ten day annual celebration of Brahmotsavam dips the city in festive mood. On the occasion of Shivratri the Kaaraneeswarar temple is beautifully decorated and prayers are offered by devotees coming from near and far.
A visit to this temple should not be missed while on a trip to Chennai for seeking Lord Shiva’s blessing and feel refreshed in the serene ambiance of this temple.
