Kaalikaambaal Temple

Located on the busy streets of George Town, the Kaalikaambaal temple is a must visit place. Dedicated to goddesses Kali, this 400 years old temple was believed to be visited by the great Maratha king Shivaji, who offered his prayers to the goddess. It is a small temple that has undergone the process of renovation, but still displays the relics of its glorious past.

An annual fest which includes decorating the chariot with beautiful metal cups is considered as a unique feature of this place. This temple is thronged by a large number of devotees and visitors alike, who come here to seek the blessings of goddess Kali.

An unusual feature of the temple remains its architecture style. While the sanctum faces west, entrance of the temple is located on the east and it is marked with the presence of a stature of goddess Kali. Many stories about this temple leave tourists fascinated.
