Madras Museum (Government Museum) was founded in mid of 19th century and is located at Egmore. It comprises of various illustrations concerned with botany, zoology, geology and anthropology. The excavation section of this museum presents the most significant periods in the history of South Indian when great rulers ruled the southern part of India. An image of Shiva and Parvati together, called Ardhnarishwara, prepared in bronze is mind-boggling. Children also do have a separate section for them. Collections from various civilizations are also present in this museum. Movie shows and explanatory lectures are also conducted sometimes. There is a library in this museum as well and it has a collection of a wide range of books. Madras Museum (Government Museum) is worth a visit as it has a number of attractive features and one can learn a lot from this museum.
