Location: Bijli Mahadev temple is located in a meadow that is surrounded by lush green forests and is situated at a distance of 14 km from the hill station of Kullu. Present at an altitude of 2438 m above the sea level, this temple is visited all around the year by a large number of devotees.
Description: Bijli Mahadev temple was named after a miracle that occurred in this area and can still be experienced here. It is believed that the Shiva lingam which is present in the temple is regularly stuck by lightening and is hence broken down into pieces. The priests who reside inside the temple collect the broken pieces and join the lingam with the help of butter. It is a common belief that lord Shiva’s blessings are achieved in the form of lightening. This sacred shrine is visited by a large number of devotees and tourists alike. Different festive celebrations keep the ambiance of the temple cheerful. However, it is the festival of Shivratri that attracts maximum number of visitors.
