Trekking, Kerala

For trekking enthusiasts who do not mind a challenge, getting to Munnar by trekking is a gratifying experience. Various trekking routes are available for adventure tourists, starting from Rajamala, Eravikulam National Park and Nayamakad.

These routes offer the finest sights of meandering streams, glittering lakes and an enthralling landscape of valleys.

The mountainous terrain, amidst the grasslands of the Western Ghats at Munnar, sheltered by the thick evergreen canopy of the Periyar Tiger reserve is a great site for camping. The abundant variety of birds, animals and plants make this place a bio-diversity hotspot.

The forest department has made very convenient arrangements for trekking in the Eravikulam National Park and in its surroundings, including Anamudy and in the dense forests of the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary.

Further, the areas from Gap Road to Bison valley, Spices Village, Pothamedu, Attukad etc. to Kunchithanny Spice villages are also quite appropriate for trekking. The trek from Pothamedu to Kunchithanny offers a wonderful route through mesmerizing tea gardens and huge cardamom plantations.

The trekking route from Kodaikanal is comparatively long and difficult.
