Location: Karighatta is a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and it is located on a hillock, outside the island town of Srirangapatna in Mysore city.
Description: Karighatta temple is a well- known Hindu temple located in a beautiful hill station. Karighatta is the name of a hillock and is derived from a Kannada word which means Black Hill. Deity of this temple is famous as Lord Srinivasa and is also called Bairagi Venkataramana. Karighatta hill grandly stands at a height of 2697 ft above sea level. Surrounded by lush greenery of tamarind and gooseberry trees, this temple is an absolute piece of elegance. This religious place promotes Hindu traditions, values and solidarity. Lokapavani, a tributary of sacred Kaveri River, flows by the Karighatta hill. A fortuitous shrine for Vaikunta Srinivasa is built here and it is made from pure black stone. This statue is surrounded by the idols of Yoga Srinivasa and Bhoga Srinivasa. On the western side of this temple, is another prominent Hindu temple, Goddess Padmavathi temple. Devotees have a great belief that performing ceremony at this temple can relieve them from all sufferings.
Activities: Traditional car festival is celebrated here every year. Huge numbers of devotees attend this festival and take part in the rituals performed in the ceremony.
