The Mysore zoo is the center of attraction for tourists, as it has a good variety of animals and a very pleasant outdoor stage with the vibrant setting of the Chamundi Hilla as the background and a lake surrounding it.
The zoo was renamed as Sri Chamarajendra zoo on the name of the founder Sri Chamarajendra. Post freedom the zoo was presented to the Department of Parks and Gardens of the state government of Mysore by the Maharaja of that time. During his travel to foreign lands, he gathered unique animals from there and bought them into the zoo.
