Located on the shores of the Indravati River, this place has recently attained a lot of recognition for being the birthplace of the great poet, Saint Tukaram. As one of the most well known poets of Maharashtra, he is known for the “Abhang Gatha” which is considered the finest literary works in Maratha.
The most popular tourist site here is the Dehu temple, which was built by the youngest son of Saint Tukaram. Built in the 18th century, this temple houses the idol of Lord Pandurang. Nearby you can find the site where Saint Tukaram attained Moksha. Other popular attractions are the rock where Saint Tukaram kept standing for his 13 day fast and a garden which was made in the memory of his beloved wife.
Apart from the Dehu temple, this location also has another renowned temple dedicated to Lord Ayyappa. This temple was built by the Ayyappa Seva Sangam. The beauty and celebration seen at this temple is at a peak during the Mandala festival, which takes place from December 16 to January 15.
