Location: Located nearby Balagandi Chaka, Mausi Ma Temple holds special significance during the popular Jagannath Rath Yatra. The temple is located mid-way of the Bada Danda and on the right side of the Grand road, leading from the Jagannath temple towards Gundicha temple of Puri.
Description: Dedicated to Goddess Ardhashini,Mausi Ma Temple is one of the famous attractions of Puri. There is a great history behind this temple. According to Hindu belief, once Puri was flooded into water. Goddess Ardhashini drank half of the flood water to save Puri, the abode of Lord Jagannath. From then, Mausi Ma is revered as a guardian deity of Puri. Millions of people congregate at Mausi Ma Temple from all over the world to celebrate the Rath Yatra with great grandeur. During the return journey of Rath Yatra, the three chariots carrying Sri Jagannath and his brother and sister stop at Mausi Ma Temple and the deity is offered Poda Pitha, a special kind of pancake supposed to be the favorite of Lord Jagannath.
Activities: During Rath Yatra, a huge celebration is carried out accompanying the chariots of the three deities. You can also become a part of this annual auspicious occasion and help to pull the Lord’s chariots.
