Description: The mosque was built in the year 1666 and 1667 and is a rare example of the rich ancient heritage of Leh. It was constructed as a part of the agreement between Aurangzeb, the Mughal emperor and the king of Ladakh Deldan Namgyal. The old Masjid was substituted by a new one that has been decorated with marvelous stone sculpture. The mosque remains open only for men and women are not allowed inside this mosque. This Masjid is positioned in the main market of Leh. People of Muslim community have a great regard for this ancient mosque. Every Friday witnesses a huge crowd in this Masjid, as quite a number of devotees visit this mosque for offering Jummah Nimaz. Friday Nimaz is considered auspicious in Islam as it is thought that it appeases Allah and he blesses the worshipper with good health and great fortune.
