Description: Zanskar, the city which was once regarded as the least explored place by the tourists, is fast gaining popularity amongst adventure buffs. Being based in the Himalayan ranges, various adventurous activities can be enjoyed by the travelers at Zanskar. Till 15th century, the city was ruled by four royal families. However, when Zorawar Singh, the Dogra general, conquered the town, he reduced royal family’s power and after that Zanskar came to be known as a part of Ladakh. Wildlife enthusiasts can sight various animals, such as wolf, alpine ibex, marmot and wild sheep in their natural habitat. Zanskar region is also well known for its rich flora.
Activities: While marking a visit to Zanskar, tourists can indulge in the activity of mountain cycling, hiking, trekking, mountain climbing and paragliding. Trekking on the frozen water is a unique experience in itself. Tourists can also shop for different items being sold in local markets, which may include the famous Kashmiri and Pashmina shawls.
