Location: Karpo-Khar shrine is positioned in the Karpo-Khar village in Sankoo. This is an important religious centre in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Description: Sankoo is located at a distance of 42 kilometers from Kargil in the Jammu and Kashmir state. This place serves as a great picnic spot and an excellent religious centre. Sankoo is famous for the Karpo-Khar Shrine. Devotees from the entire country visit this shrine, which belongs to Sayed Mir Hashim, a well known Muslim saint who had been invited from Kashmir. Purpose of the invitation was teaching Islam to Thi-Namgyal a ruler who belonged to Buddhist religion and desired to accept Islam as his religion in the 16th century. Sayed Mir Hashim was a great philosopher and had excellent knowledge of Islamic values and traditions. Pious by nature, he was well versed with the Islamic book Quran. He used to pray five times a day like a true Muslim and used to fast during the auspicious month of Ramzan before Id. These qualities had impressed the Buddhist king and he thought to take his help, so as to know more about this religion.
Activities: Devotees visit this place to take blessings from the saint, as Syed Mir Hashim is respected by the people till date.
