Maharana Pratap Sagar Dam, Uletokpo

Location: This dam is positioned at a height of 450 meter over the sea level. It is situated in Uletokpo in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir.

Description: This dam was previously called the Pong dam and later it was named after Maharana Pratap, the great warrior of Rajput clan, to honor him. Total area of this reservoir is near about 45000 hectares and it is a wetland that does not exist due to any natural phenomena but has been constructed above the Beas River. This dam serves as a great place for bird watchers, as well as wildlife enthusiasts. In the year 1983, this Dam was declared as a wildlife sanctuary. It serves as a house for 220 species of birds coming here from Central Asia and Siberia. The most well known species are pintfalls, cranes, surkhab and black buck. Other popular animal species are the leopards, wild boars, sambar and barking deer.  

Activities: Maharana Pratap Sagar Dam is considered as an ideal place for enjoying fishing. Other activities that are possible here are sailing, rowing, surfing and swimming. All these activities are a real fun and attract quite a number of tourists to this place. Apart from this the beauty of this place is awe inspiring.
