Location: Ramnagar Fort is located on the eastern bank of River Ganga, opposite to Tulsi Ghat in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. It is at a distance of 12 km from both, Varanasi junction railway station and Varanasi bus stand.
Description: Built in the 18th century, this protected structure has witnessed many changes for the past many years. Constructed by the Maharaja of Banaras, Ramnagar Fort earlier served as the place of residence for the Grand family of Banaras. Showcasing traditional architecture, cream sandstones were used to build this ancient Fort. Located on the bank of River Ganga, the fort offers a magnificent view of Ganga River and Tulsi Ghat, especially in the evening when a myriad of floating earthen lamps reflect the divine beauty of this place. A part of Ramnagar Fort is converted into a museum that houses a collection of decorated chairs, vintage cars, elephant saddle, giant astronomical clock, manuscripts, medieval costumes, writings, armory and ancient weapons. One can view the artifacts that belonged to the royal family of Maharaja of Banaras. The Fort also has a temple of Lord Hanuman, dedicated to Vedvyasa, author of Ramayana.
