Tara Devi Temple, Shoghi

Location: One of the great Hindu Goddesses, Goddess Tara dwells in the hill top Tara nearby Shoghi.

Description: Goddess Tara is said to be a prominent deity in Tibetan Buddhism. Dating back to 250 years, Bhagwati Tara Devi Temple is of great historical and religious importance. According to legends, a ruler of Sen Dynasty brought Goddess Tara from West Bengal to Himachal Pradesh. Later on, Raja Bhupinder Singh established the shrine and installed a wooden idol of Tara Mata as per the style and traditions of Vaishnavism. Scions of Sen Dynasty still visit the temple and worship here. Himachal Government has provided special transport services to reach this temple. On Ashtami, the eight day of navratras, they come and worship Tara Devi. Tourists can easily get buses from Old Bus stand in Shimla or hire a taxi that will take you to the highest peak where this temple is located.

Activities: If you visit the shrine on Ashtami, you may also witness numerous religious activities performed here. During navratras the temple remains very busy with devotees on all nine days.
