Location: One of the most venerated religious spots, Kali Bari Temple is a prime attraction of Shimla city. It is located near the Mall road.

Description: An abode of the divine goddess associated with empowerment, Kali Bari Temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali. According to legends, during 19th century the temple was located on the highest peak Jakhu, but was later on shifted to the current location in Shimla. Constructed in the year 1845, the shrine is flocked by a large number of tourists all through the year. Kali Bari is made from two Bengali words, Kali which refers to the Goddess and Bari means Home, so the shrine is the Dwelling of Goddess Kali. You may easily buy coconut and other offerings from stalls outside the temple. Durga Pooja is still observed in traditional style in the shrine and devotees beat the wooden musical instruments to venerate the Goddess Kali. One must attend the Aarti, which is observed three times, in the morning, afternoon and evening in the shrine.

Activities: Navratri and Dussehra are two main festivals which are celebrated with great grandiosity in this temple and special langar is organized for the devotees in the honor of Goddess Kali.
