Location: Located in the Sarasvati Garden Estate, Dorje Drak Monastery is a prominent religious site in Shimla city.

Description: Dorje Drak Monastery was built to replace the original monastery that was ruined during Chinese Invasion of Tibet. Dorje Drak Monastery is also known as Thubetan Evam Dorje Drak and it was created to preserve and transmit the teachings of the Jang-Ter tradition. “Dorje Drak” which means “The Indestructible Rock” and this meaning has been proved by founding this small monastery for Tibetan migrants in Shimla. The monastery is a habitat for about 100 monks and many of them are children. The monks of this Tibetan monastery are studying and practicing under the supervision of Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche. With time, an increasing number of people are getting attracted towards the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism and joining this monastery, which is leading to the lack of space. So the community is reliant on gathering donations in order to fulfill the essential needs of the Tibetan monks in the monastery.

Activities: One can escape from the hustle and bustle of worldly life and come to the serene atmosphere of this monastery to understand the lifestyle, traditions and culture of this Tibetan settlement in Shimla.
