Bhutia Busty Gompa is positioned less than a kilometer away from Darjeeling. Spectacular scenery to this monastery is enhanced even more by the Kanchenjunga range. This monastery is a branch of Phontag Monastry of Sikkim which was relocated to Darjeeling in 1879. This monastery has a collection of large number of books and especially many old Buddhist books of great value can be found here. This monastery is located on the C.R. Das road. This temple was originally located on the observatory hill and was built by the Chogyals of Sikkim. Actually an earthquake in 1934 led to the destruction of the monastery that existed on the observatory hill which led to the reconstruction of the monastery. People from Buddhist community visit this monastery as they enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of this place and they can view plenty of old Buddhist texts which help them elevate the consciousness of their soul and move forward in order to attain the real goal of human life.
