A specialized zoo in India which is well recognized internationally for its breeding conservation programs of snow leopard, red panda and various other rare animal species, Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park was named after the then ex-governor Smt. Padmaja Naidu.
Also known as Darjeeling Zoo, this place spreads over an area of 67.56 acres. Established in the year 1958, this zoological park attracts a large number of visitors throughout the year. This zoo is believed to be the only zoological park all over the world which breeds, Tibetan wolf, in confinement.
The majestic Kanchenjunga range forms the backdrop of this park, thus enhancing its scenic beauty. This park aims at maintaining the ecological balance of the Himalayas and is well known for its ex-situ conservation. Various awareness programs are carried out by this zoological park to make its visitors aware about conservation of the eco system and different species of animals.
