Location: An important pilgrimage place, Bhairavnath Temple is located at a place known as Dhak, which lies in the town of Rajmachi. One of the most significant religious destinations, it is visited by a large number of devotees and travelers.
Description: This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is worshipped in the form of Bhairava. Architecturally, this temple is similar to the various Shiva temples that lie in the Konkan region. Being situated within the Shreevardhan Fort, people belonging to Hindu community throng this temple on various occasions. Cool breeze makes the atmosphere of this temple quite pleasant. Dense forest regions in the backdrop increase the beauty of the temple many folds. However, the main sanctum sanctorum of the temple houses a large number of small shrines which are dedicated to various Hindu deities. Lord Shiva being the main deity of the temple, festival of Maha Shivratri is celebrated here with great excitement. Devotees from far off regions come to pray to Lord Shiva on this festival and chanting of the lord’s name make the ambiance more holy. Tourists can also become a part of these celebrations.
