Description: Built by Ram Shara Singh, Diwan-i-Khas is a wonderful place of immense historical importance. Also called Audience Hall, it is a rectangular chamber surrounded by series of arches rising from piers. You will be astounded to see the piers inlaid with floral designs, while the upper pillars are painted and gilded with beautiful Himalayan sceneries. The interior of this hall are ornamented with wall friezes reflecting the influences of Kangra, Arki, Rajasthani, Kullu and European styles of miniature paintings. The interior as well as exterior of this astounding edifice is a must watch. Another interesting fact is that the themes of frescos in Diwan-i-Khas distinctly vary from Indian legends to European cities. Inlaid floral decorations, battle scenes, small sculptures and other images illustrate strong influence of Guler art style. One should visit this place to observe the versatility of frescoes ranging from Chinese depictions to Indian Puranas.
