Lalbhai Dalpatbhai Museum is the best example of archaeology and fine art in Ahmedabad. It can be found in the vicinity of an incredibly spacious campus, Gujarat University in the western part of city.
The museum is the vision of a monk scholar, Muni Shri Punyavijayji and a great industrialist, Sheth Kasturbhai Lalbhai. The board of this museum has been collecting and maintaining the palm-leaf manuscripts and artworks of the pre-Mughal era and 11th century paintings and sculptures.
With time the collection grew and it became important for the board of the museum to build a separate structure to display its rare collection and soon in 1984 a new museum came into existence, designed by an internationally applauded architect, Shri Balkrishna Doshi.
For those who have great love for books, this museum is a must visit place in Ahmedabad. It holds a huge collection of rare manuscripts, admirable miniature paintings, cloth paintings, textiles, terracotta’s, metal sculptures, stone sculptures as well as the artwork of Tibet and Nepal.
