Kolahoi Glacier, Kashmir

Kolahoi Glacier

Location: Located 15 kilometer in the south of Sonamarg and 21 km north of Arin is the Kolahoi Glacier, a glittering jewel surrounded by astonishing ice-capped mountains.

Description: Kolahoi Glacier is one of the longest glaciers in Kashmir valley and the West Lidder River stream of Kolahoi Glacier joins the East Lidder River at Pahalgam. Tourists can travel for some distance in a jeep to Aru and the remaining distance has to be covered either on foot or by riding a pony, which are easily available. Kolahoi valley has a glaciated section which is semi-circular in shape and it is quite popular among tourists who come here to admire its unmatched beauty. Almost entire glaciated part of the valley is beautifully covered by moraines, which look like ice cubes flowing in a glass of water. In the year 1912, a British team headed by Dr. Ernest Neve was the first one to climb the Kolahoi glacier. This glacier still stands majestically amongst the other mountain ranges and attracts innumerable trekkers every year, despite having to withstand different climatic conditions.

Activities: Kolahoi Glacier is a paradise for adventure lovers who want to indulge in outdoor activities, like trekking, hiking and skiing, to make their vacation tour a remarkable one.
