Mcleodganj is having a number of attractions and Mani Lhakhang Stupa, also called Prayer Wheel Stupa, is a sacred monument built under the charge of third Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche, an Avalokiteshwara. This Stupa was constructed in the year 2001 and is a sacred place for the Buddhists. Dalai Lama, the religious head of the Buddhists, ordered construction of five Stupas after the earthquake of 1986, to avert dangers and natural disasters.
Inside this holy place is placed a big gold plated idol of Buddha and the lord is sitting in lotus position. If this Stupa is visited during evening, then one can listen to the hymns sung by monks that are supported with musical instruments. For good luck you can spin the long row of prayer wheels. The atmosphere of this Stupa is tranquil and pleasant. Buddhists from all over Mcleodganj visit this place to offer prayers and take blessings of the divine.
