Chamunda temple is situated 15 kilometers away from Dharamsala, on the right shore of the River Baner. This temple is considered to be of great religious importance and people believe that demons Chand and Mund were killed by Goddess Kali at this spot. Presiding deity of this temple is kept undercover and visitors cannot approach it. Back side of this temple has a cave -like scoop, manifesting a stone lingam. Near the temple one can witness a number of brilliantly painted images of Gods and Goddesses; they serve as an additional attraction of this place.
A manmade lake located near the temple also makes this place suitable for exploration. This temple is connected via road with Dharamsala and tourists can hire a private taxi or board a state transport bus to reach here. Most favorable time to visit this temple is from second half of June to October end.
