Nadaun is located on the Shimla-Dharamsala road on the shore of River Beas, 27 kilometers away from Hamirpur and at a distance of 50 kilometers from Kangra. This town comprises of an ancient Shiva temple, an old palace and an excellent rest house. Kangra rulers had to shift their capital city to Nadaun after their defeat in a battle at the hands of the army of Jahangir, a Mughal Emperor. Being the capital city of the kingdom made this place well known. The fame and glory of this place was short lived as Kangra Fort was recaptured by Raja Sansar Chand and he became a powerful ruler of Kangra valley. The palace that exists here since that period has some paintings of that time. Famous temple of Jawala Ji, which is one of the Shaktipeeth, is at a distance of fourteen kilometers from here. Besides having historical significance, tourists also visit this place to enjoy fishing in the River Beas.
