Hang gliding, Bir

Shielded by mountains and enclosed by tea gardens, Bir is a small village constituting of a number of Monasteries and a Tibetan colony, in district Kangra of Himachal Pradesh state. This place is used as a landing base by hang and Para gliders. During the decade of 1980s, Hang-gliding started in Bir and has gained huge popularity. Billing which is at a distance of 14 kilometers from here is considered as the launching pad for hang-gliding and Bir is the destination for landing. Three international and five national hand-gliding rallies have been organized in Bir since 1984. This sport needs training from professionals, who are experts in this game. Various aero sports events and training courses are organized by Himachal Pradesh Tourism Corporation in different seasons of the year. The mammoth Dhauladhar mountain range, which lies above the Kangra valley, presents extensive view of the surroundings and the height of the mountain ranges provides an ideal place for flying.
