Tashi Jong Monastery, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh

Tashi Jong Monastery, Palampur

This monastery is of recent origin and it encloses a small sphere of the Tibetan refugees where one can witness the residence of the people in deportation. This monastery has structures at various levels. A Tibetan restaurant and a college can also be seen in this monastery. The presiding idol has been placed on a platform at the end of the garden. The curved roofs that are decorated with red and green color have prayer flags that wave beautifully with the breeze. A stupa, in the form of thick loom, which is quintessential in a Buddhist shrine, embellishes the otherside of the garden. Secondary prayer halls where routine prayers are offered by the monks are also present in the garden.

In addition to the religious importance the monastery houses a craft emporium where one can get beautiful Tibetan artifacts. This monastery is one of the many attractive sites of the Palampur region and provides impressive scenery of the Kangra Valley as well as calm and pleasant atmosphere.
