St. John in the Wilderness

This Church is positioned in the forest, between Forsyth Ganj and Mcleodganj. Dharamsala is at a distance close distance from St. John in the Wilderness Church. Devoted to a British Viceroy, Lord Elgin who expired in the year 1863 in Dharamsala, this church was constructed in the year 1852 and serves as a paragon of architecture as it is built out of stones having multiple colors. Covered by deodar trees this church is at a picturesque location and is accessible by taxis and other modes of transport. Memorial plaques and stained glass windows serve as some of the attractions of this church. St. John in the Wilderness exists as a mark of British Heritage. A popular attraction located near this church is the Bhagsunag Falls. An interesting fact about this church is that Lord Elgin was buried in this church because he was so much attracted to the beauty of Dharamsala that he desired to be buried here.
