Shiva Temple, Palampur

This beautiful temple of Lord Shiva positioned at Baijnath is 16 kilometers from Palampur. This temple was built in the 9th century and it encompasses amazing design structures that have a resemblance to the Jagannath temple at Puri in Orissa. The architecture of this temple shows a puri having a width of 8 to 18 feet where the lingam is present. The pyramidal roof of the temple and the Mandap are the other charming attractions. Lord Shiva can be seen in a Vaidanatha form, which means Lord of physicians and because of this temple the town attained its name as Baijnath. A legend says that the great Asura king Ravana worshipped Lord Shiva at this place and attained immortality. The temple is an architectural marvel and is said to be unique in all respects. In addition to its beautiful designs, this temple offers calmness and serenity, while the charming atmosphere of the snowy peaks and abundant greenery enhance the beauty of this place even more.
