Gyuto Monastery is located at a distance of 6 kilometers away from Dharamsala. This place is a well known pilgrimage center and the house of Karmapa. The person who serves as the head of Karma Kagyu is called Karmapa. Karma Kagyu is said to be the main academy of Tibetan Buddhism. This monastery is also known as TCV School and has an idol of Sakyamuni Buddha placed in a small chamber. This Gompa was constructed in honor of the soldiers who laid down their lives for the liberation of Tibet. The stupa that is placed in this monastery resembles the structures that were constructed in the 3rd century BC by Asoka ‘The Great’. Besides having historical significance this monastery is of great importance for the people who follow Buddhism. This place is easily accessible and one can get a bus or taxis to reach this monastery from Dharamsala.
