Location: Situated at an altitude of 2438m, Bijli Mahadev Temple lies in the region of Kullu in Himachal Pradesh. Located at a distance of 10 km across the river Beas, this temple can be reached by the devotees by covering a trek of 3 km.
Description: Dedicated to Hindu deity Lord Shiva, Bijli Mahadev Temple is one of the most famous temples that lie in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is believed by the local residents that they receive lord’s blessings in the form of lightening. After the flash of lightening, priests are required to restore the Shiva lingam using sattoo and butter, as it is shattered to pieces and this phenomenon is observed every year. Temple doors are adorned by two statues of Nandi, Lord Shiva’s bull. The doors also have beautiful carvings on them. Giving a panoramic view of the valley, this temple which is present on the top of a hill, always remains on the must visit list of the religiously inclined tourists.
Activities: Visitors can enjoy themselves during different celebrations that take place in the temple. Being dedicated to Lord Shiva, Shivratri is celebrated here with huge pomp and show. The path that leads to this sacred shrine is bordered by pine trees which make the stride amazing.
