Description: Aryabhatta Research Institute is a prime national astronomical observatory established during the period 1947-1555. Untiring efforts of many scientists have resulted in the transformation of the Uttar Pradesh Science Organization (UPSO) into a modern centre of Astronomical Research. Its location on Manora Peak was considered perfect for the installation of national observatory at that time. Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) was the new name given to UPSO that came into existence on 22nd March, 2004. ARIES works under Department of Science and Technology. Spread at a total area of 32.38 hectares at Manora peak, ARIES is a significant contribution to the world of technology. Research activities related to sun, galaxies, and particularly to the field of star clusters are some of the great contributions made by ARIES. ARIES is an autonomous body of Government of India.
