Location: Situated amidst the town of Nainital, Naini Lake is a natural fresh water lake in Uttarakhand State of India.
Description: Naini Lake, also known as Nainital Lake, is a very beautiful eye shaped Lake. It is one of the famous lakes of Kumaon Hills. The beautiful Lake is nestled in high and steep hill rocks from all sides. Hills around Nainital are covered with the greenery of oak, bamboo and deodar trees which enhance the beauty of this lake even more. Balia Nala is the main stream feeding this Lake from last many years. The entire Nainital city is settled around the sides of this lake. Naini Lake is also serves as the abode for numerous aquatic species, like carps Mahseer, Hill Trout, Mirror Carp, Red Finned Mahseer and Tor Putitora. Mirror Carp found in this lake is an imported fish, also called Mosquito fish. Nainital Lake has been successfully restored by the National Institute of Hydrology of Roorkee and that is why the lake has become visibly cleaner.
