Situated in the satellite city of Panchkula, at a distance of approximately 8 km from Chandigarh, the National Cactus & Succulent Botanical HUDA Garden & Research Centre, or the Cactus Garden as it is more commonly known, was established in the year 1987 and holds the distinction of being the largest succulent botanical garden in all of Asia. The Cactus Garden in Panchkula covers an area of 7 acres and is known for the rare as well as endangered Indian succulent species totaling over 3500 different species of cacti in all. This attraction has been steadily growing in popularity, drawing in not only large crowds of tourists from across the world, but botanists and flora enthusiasts as well. The Cactus Garden consists of 3 green houses for these plants and is a great place to visit for those people who are interested in finding out how many different varieties of this desert plant exist.
