National Gallery of Portraits, Punjab

National Gallery of Portraits

The National Gallery of Portraits was established during the year 1977 in what is now Sector 17-B, Chandigarh, as an effort to not only commemorate the enormous efforts made by the people of the past who shaped our future by fighting the British Empire for the independence of India, but to also spread awareness regarding all the cumulative efforts and sacrifices which went into the achievement of this milestone in world history. There are a number of portraits of many prominent leaders during this time of struggle, as well as a large collection of recordings which they made as part of this struggle. Apart from all this, the gallery is also home to a collection of photographs, sculptures, murals and even duplicates of thousands of original letters written by these individuals. Tourists can visit this gallery between 9 AM to 5 PM from Tuesday to Saturday and get a taste of history.
