Nek Chand’s Rock Garden is definitely one of the most popular tourist attractions in and around the city of Chandigarh. This garden is a true testament to the imagination and will of a man. This garden, located in Sector 1, between the Capitol Complex and the Sukhna Lake, is the brain – child of a former Road Inspector named Nek Chand who toiled endlessly for years to build this garden using only discarded urban and industrial waste. Recycling broken ceramic sanitary ware and electrical appliances, as well as glass refuse, clay, terracotta and copious amount of cement, Nek Chand single handedly created this labyrinthine open air exhibition hall, which today spans across 64 acres. One special thing about the Rock Garden is that despite being a garden, there are no flowers here. Complete with waterfalls, a wishing well, statues, an open air auditorium, a hall of mirrors and numerous other attractions besides the impressive art works themselves, the Rock Garden remains one of the most popular locations for tourists to come and visit.
