Mindrolling Monastery

Mindrolling Monastery is a well known Monastery of the Nyingma sect. Actual meaning of Mindrolling in Tibetian Language is “Place of Perfect Emancipation". The monastery was built in 1676 by Rigzin Tendak Lingpa and it has seen various natural calamities and invasions; the structure that exists now is attributed to Khocchhen Riponche. Mindrolling Monastery is known for its architectural design and it is also one of the largest Buddhist Viharas in India to exhibit such architectural beauty.

This is an excellent place to view Buddhist scriptures and gain knowledge about other fields of interest, for example Tibetan lunar calendar, calligraphy, Tibetan medicine and astronomy. Ngagyur Nyingma College is also controlled by this monastery. The college has the reputation of being one of the biggest Buddhist institutions of the sub continent. A surprising fact about this institution is that it has been training yogis and monks from the last 300 years or so. Great respect is shown by the people, who follow Buddhism to the person who acts as the head of this monastery.
