Surrounded by an overwhelming number of Vishnu temples is the Sri Kapileswaraswami Temple, dedicated solely to the Lord Shiva temple. Situated three kilometers north of Tirupati, the temple sits on the foothills of Tirumala. All major festivals of south India, like the Vinayaka Chathurthi, Maha Shivaratri, Annabhishekam and Brahmotsavam are celebrated here with great pomp and pride.
The sanctity of this temple is glorified by the presence of a divine waterfall known as Kapila Teertham or the Alwar teertham nearby. Apart from this, the temple premises also house other sub temples of Sri Lakshminarayanaswamy, Sri Venugopalaswamy and Sri Vinayakaswamy. The only temple dedicated to the God of destruction, this temple is visited by almost all pilgrims who travel to Tirupati, so as not to incur Lord Shiva’s wrath.
