Location: The famous temple of Lord Shiva, called the Ernakulatthappan Temple, is located in the central part of the Eranakulam city in the Durbar Hall Ground, falling under the Kerala state.
Description: Ernakulatthappan Temple is also famous by the name of Eranakulam Shiva Temple, as the main deity worshipped in this temple is Lord Shiva, the idol of which is located inside the temple, facing west direction. It is believed that all the rituals and pooja performed in the temple are according to Villawamangalathu Swamiyar.The pilgrims from all across India come here to offer their prayers and attain the state of Moksha or nirvana by seeking Lord Shiva’s blessings. Eranakulam Temple is a perfect piece of art depicting the authentic and intricate Kerala style of architecture. Other gods worshipped by the pilgrims visiting the Eranakulam Shiva Temple include the Hindu God Ganpati and Sastha.
Activities: A list of festivals is celebrated here and one amongst the main festivals performed here includes Thiruvonam feast that is held during the Onam celebrations. Navarathri Aghosham, better known as the Navarathri Festival, is also celebrated here. Other ceremonies that are performed here are Vrishchicka Mandala Mahotsavam, Ramayana Masam, Uthram Aarattu and Thrikkarthika Festival.
