Description: Paliam Palace was constructed to serve as a home to Paliath Achans. They were the Prime Ministers of the Maharajas of Kochi region. Paliam Palace is one of the best architectural marvels available to us from the prehistoric times. It has a collection of several significant documents and other historic items. The palace came into existence more than 450 years ago. When Portuguese invaded Kochi, the residence of the king of Kochi region was shifted to Paliam Palace. The palace has now been declared as a Muziris Heritage Site due to the fact that it has been renovated and restored as part of the famous Muziris Heritage Project. Wooden staircase with intricate carvings, wonderfully decorated exterior of the palace, exquisite railings, etc. clearly depict the influence of Dutch architecture. The Paliam Palace has three floors in total and a visit to each and every corner of this palace leaves you speechless. The top of the entrance of the Palace has an area known as the Prasanga Peedum, which was the place used by the Paliath Achans to address the residents of Chendamangalam.
