Description: The divine city of Kaladi is famous as it is the birthplace of a renowned Hindu Philosopher, called Sri Adi Sankaracharya, who existed during the 8th century AD. He travelled all across India and spent most of his lifetime arguing with great scholars and learners about his theory based on Monotheism, or better known as Advaita. He worked a lot for promoting his theory during his lifetime. A shrine dedicated to Adi Sankara, along with Adi Sankara Keerthi Sthambam which is an 8-storyed painting, is the two major tourist sites of this region. In the neighborhood of Adi Sankara’s temple is located the samadhi of Aryamaba’s mother. When Sankara was young, he was attacked by a crocodile near the bank of the river and this site can be seen in the proximity. The story of Sankara is depicted via means of the paintings drawn on the walls of the Adi Sankara Keerthi Sthambam. Many art lovers from all across the globe come here to have a glance at this masterpiece.
