Location: Romain Rolland Library is a majestic library situated on the Romain Rolland Street in Pondicherry. It is located close to other famous places like Aurobindo Ashram and Legislative Assembly.
Description: Romain Rolland Library is named after a great French writer Roman Rolland, who was a friend and regular correspondent with great Indian leader, Mahatma Gandhi. He was one of the very few writers who made contribution against First World War. The famous library was constructed in the year 1827. The Romain Rolland Library houses a huge and rare collection of around 315,000 books written in myriad languages. In early period, the library was famous by the name of Bibliotheque Publique and today it is an important study centre for tourists and writers. There is a separate section especially for students where they can access microfilm unit and competitive books for exam preparation. A major attraction here is the mobile library facility, which has around 8000 books. This library is very informative and can be visited by people of all age groups.
Activities: Visiting this library is an enriching experience. Visitors can also check out a separate section of the library engaged in developing reading habits in small kids. The library is open on all days of a week, except Monday, and the timings are from 7:30 in the morning till 4:30 in the evening.
