In Coorg, there are a large number of activities which tourists and residents alike can participate in. One of the most popular of these activities is bird - watching. Since the verdant green forests and numerous coffee plantations around Coorg serve as a home to almost one - fourth of the approximately 1250 species of birds which are found across India, this tourist destination is a veritable ornithologist’s delight. There are a number of forest reserves, like the Anekad and the Nagarhole forest reserves, where these bird watching enthusiasts can see a wide variety of birds amidst the expansive foliage and green environs, including the Whistling Thrush, Nilgiri Thrush, the Malalabar Trogon, the Laughing Thrush and even the Fairy Bluebird, all of which can be found in and around Coorg. Apart from these birds, bird watching enthusiasts can also catch sight of a number of bats, eagles, hummingbirds, kingfishers, Malabar Parakeets, owls, partridges, peacocks and even the White Cheeked barbet.
