Omkareshwara Temple, Madikeri

Visitors to Coorg, who are looking forward to a spiritual journey, should come and visit the Omkareshwara Temple which is located in Madikeri. Built in the year 1820 by Lingarajendra II, this temple is a great example of a mix of Gothic and the Muhammadan styles of architecture with turrets on all four corners, as well as a dome in the middle. Legend says that this temple is however, dedicated to Lord Shiva and was built by the King as atonement for his hand in the execution of a priest for his own needs. Tourists can come and marvel at the detailed architecture of this temple, especially the bars on the windows which are built of a mystical alloy of 5 different metals. Tourists can also see the fresh water fish which stay in the pool out in front of the temple. There is also a large water tank with a “Mantapam” in the middle which is accessible by a walkway.
