Nalknad Palace, Kakkabe

Tourists visiting Coorg who want to do some historical touring should definitely consider putting Nalknad Palace on their must visit list. This palace was built in the year 1792 by Dodda Viraraja as a refuge from the troops of Tipu Sultan but another interesting fact is that this palace was also the final refuge of Chikka Virarajendra who was the last king of Coorg before being deposed from his position by the invading British armies. This palace is a great place for tourists to come and learn more about the history of Coorg as this palace is home to some excellent architecture reminiscent of that period, as well as a large number of ancient paintings which adorn the walls and the roof. This is surely an ideal place for tourists to spend the day learning more about history and has been declared a protected monument which has been placed under the care of the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums of Karnataka.
