Pakshipathalam is 7 km northeast of Thirunelli Temple, in the Wayanad district in Kerala. Perched nearly 1740 metres above the sea level, it holds moist green, deciduous forests. Steep hills and gurgling streamlets make this place an ideal picnic spot after a long trek. Trekking is the only way to reach Pakshipathalam. Rare species of birds are found in abundance, making this place a delight for bird watchers. Similarly, exceptional species of fauna can be spotted from the watchtower of the sanctuary.
