Built in 1958, the Neyyer dam is a popular picnic spot built on the basin where the three rivers - Neyyar, Mullayar, and Kallar meet. The area is richly endowed with medicinal herbs used for making several medicines.
A wild life sanctuary, along with a Crocodile farm, Lion and Deer safari parks are also a famous tourist spot. The tariff for a watchtower in the region is Rs 5 for Indians and Rs 10 for Foreigners. The dam can be easily reached with regular bus services available from Kochi.
Instead of a safari, in which the big cats rarely make an appearance, one can opt for a guided trek for a more exclusive view of wildlife from close.
